As 2020 comes to a close, we are opening our last presents of the holiday season. With that, we are excited to announce that the O3 Wallet has released support for the Bitcoin network.

The latest version (iOS: 2.1.0 / Android: 2.2.0 ) can be downloaded from our website, AppStore, and GooglePlay. We have published this guide to assist anyone looking to get started using Bitcoin on the O3 wallet.

Create / Import a BTC wallet

Click the plus icon, select ‘Create a wallet’ or ‘Import a wallet’, and choose BTC from the list.

On the import page, you can select your existing BTC wallet by private key or Mnemonic.

  1. Private key: Private key is generated by a long random number. Holding a private key is holding assets. In this way, you can enter the phrase or scan the QR code of the private key, and then set a new password.
  2. Mnemonic: Mnemonic code was proposed by the BIP 39 proposal. The purpose is to randomly generate 12 to 24 words that are easy to remember. So when you remember the Mnemonic, it is equal to remembering the private key. If you choose this way to import, please enter the Mnemonic separated by spaces and pay attention to the letter case.

Backup your BTC wallet

After creating a new BTC wallet, you can choose back up now or later. We highly recommend you to back up the Mnemonic immediately when asked. The system will randomly generate 12 words, please write these down on a piece of paper and store them safely offline. If you do not back up immediately, you also can backup anytime after that however you are strongly advised against this approach.

Two address types

As you know, the legacy address is the original BTC address that begins with 1. SegWit (Segregated Witness) is the newer address format that begins with 3. SegWit was designed to increase the block size limit by separate signature data from Bitcoin transactions. In terms, there are more capacities released on the chain to help the Bitcoin network to run faster and smoother.

Both addresses can be used to receive and send BTC. You can simply switch to the other one on the wallet detail page. However, not every wallet supports the SegWit address format. So you only can send BTC to legacy addresses on these wallets. But don’t worry, the legacy address can receive it from a SegWit address.

Two address types

Transfer Bitcoin simple and secure

On the transfer page, you can enter the receiving BTC legacy address or SegWit address by importing from your address book or scanning the QR code. Next, set the amount you want to send and customize the miner fee or follow the default fee by the system. The higher the miner fee, the faster the transfer speed. After checking the payment details, you can confirm the transaction by password, Touch ID, or Face ID.
